DOG FOOD FAQ
RAW FOOD
-
Raw dog food is a combination of meat, bones, organs and fat ground together to mimic a diet similar to what our dogs' wild ancestors evolved to consume and thrive on.
-
By feeding a prey model style raw diet, we are feeding as nature intended our dogs to eat, thereby increasing bioavailability and absorption of nutrients, easing digestion, improving hydration, reducing inflammation and increasing overall health and longevity.
Feeding our dogs wholesome, nutrient dense raw food promotes healthy joint function, healthy teeth and breath, a soft, shiny coat. Feeding a natural diet also supports our dogs' gut lining and overall digestive health.
When dogs eat a species appropriate raw diet, they are truly nourished. Nutrients become plentiful, highly bioavailable, hydration improves and digestion eases; leaving the body available to focus on recovery, maintenance and healing.

Yes! Our raw food is designed to support dogs of all ages. For puppies, our food offers a bounty of vitamins, minerals, healthy fat and protein all in a form their little bodies were designed to devour as they grow and grow. Raw food can also help with house training. While raw food is moisture-rich, it’s in a form that is extremely absorbable to a young pups body. Moisture is retained better and less accidents occur during house training. Raw foods is also great for helping young puppies focus during training. Raw fed puppies have an easier time focusing during training sessions and tend to pick up on new tasks, cues and commands much easier.
Our raw food is also beneficial for adult dogs. Our blend includes ingredients that support joints and mobility, digestive health, skin and coat health. Our raw blend is also helpful to dogs who need to thin down a little. Raw food is a great tool to help your dog maintain a healthy weight.
Our raw food is also supportive for senior dogs. Contrary to popular belief, dogs need more protein as they age to avoid muscle loss or wasting. Our food is full of healthy protein that helps to maintain and repair the body each day. By feeding foods containing healthy protein, especially collagen, we give our dogs’ the building blocks for health at each bowl.
Hound House Raw Dog Food also contains liver, kidney and heart. Organ meats are some of the most nutritionally dense foods available. To our dogs, they are nature’s multivitamins. Organs are rich in vitamins and minerals and can help boost immunity, support the brain and service the digestive system.

We recommend feeding 2% of your dog’s ideal body weight, measured in pounds. Depending on age and activity level, your dog may require a little more or less food per meal. Should you see your dog gain unnecessary weight, you’d reduce the daily amount you are offering. If you see your dog lose unnecessary weight, you’d slowly increase the daily amount your dog is eating.
-
All ingredients in our raw dog food are sourced from local farms in central Texas.
-
Yes! Since our raw food is made completely from nutrient dense whole foods, it is very supportive to growing pups, seniors and dogs with health conditions.
-
True food allergies are quite rare in dogs. However, food sensitivities to grains, legumes, meat meals, meat by products, gluten, seed oils and other ingredients found in ultra-processed food are very common. Because our food is free of these inflammatory agents, our raw food can be supportive to dogs with skin and digestive issues.
-
Once you fully transition your dog to raw, you may notice they drink less water. This is very normal. Our food contains a much higher moisture content (70%) compared to dry food (<10%). Dogs eating our raw food need to consume less water since our moisture-rich food is providing adequate and essential hydration at each meal.
You may also notice your dog produces smaller, firmer stools and less frequent bowel movements because the body is retaining more of the food and assimilating the nutrients better. This is another added bonus for puppies on raw food. House training can be a lot easier!
Because our raw blend is higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates than ultra processed pet foods, it helps to promote lean muscle mass and reduced fat accumulation making it easier for your dog to maintain a healthy weight.
