Dog Food FAQ
RAW FOOD
-
Raw dog food is a combination of meat, bones, organs and fat ground together to mimic a diet similar to what a dogs' wild ancestors evolved to consume and thrive on.
-
By feeding a prey model style raw diet, we are feeding as nature intended our dogs to eat, thereby increasing bioavailability and absorption of nutrients, easing digestion, improving hydration, reducing inflammation and increasing overall health and longevity.
Feeding dogs wholesome, nutrient dense raw food promotes healthy joint function, healthy teeth and breath, and a soft, shiny coat. Feeding a natural diet also supports a dog's gut lining and overall digestive health.
When dogs eat a species appropriate raw diet, they are truly nourished. Nutrients become plentiful, highly bioavailable, hydration improves and digestion eases; leaving the body available to focus on recovery, maintenance and healing.
-

Cooked bones can be dangerous because they become brittle and can splinter—but raw bone is a natural, safe, and essential part of a dog’s ancestral diet. Our blend includes finely ground raw bone, which provides vital minerals like calcium and phosphorus to support strong teeth, joints, and skeletal health. When fed raw and appropriately prepared, bone is not only safe—it’s incredibly beneficial.
-
We currently offer one thoughtfully crafted raw blend—because it works. Our Hound House Raw Blend is made with nutrient-dense, pasture-raised beef, turkey necks, beef liver, beef kidney, chicken eggs, and beef heart, providing a rich variety of proteins, healthy fats, and essential nutrients in every serving. Rather than offering multiple blends, we’ve focused on formulating a single, intentionally designed option that supports dogs through all life stages—delivering the variety and nourishment they need without complication.

We recommend feeding 2% of your dog’s ideal body weight, measured in pounds. Depending on age and activity level, your dog may require a little more or less food per meal. Should you see your dog gain unnecessary weight, you’d reduce the daily amount you are offering. If you see your dog lose unnecessary weight, you’d slowly increase the daily amount your dog is eating.
For more information, see our Feeding Guidelines.

All ingredients in our raw dog food are sourced from local farms in central Texas.
Our dog food is processed just down the road from our farm in La Grange, Texas, at a USDA-approved facility to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety.
-
True food allergies are quite rare in dogs. However, food sensitivities to grains, legumes, meat meals, meat by products, gluten, seed oils and other ingredients found in ultra-processed food are very common. Because our food is free of these inflammatory agents, our raw food can be supportive to dogs with skin and digestive issues.
-
Once you fully transition your dog to raw, you may notice they drink less water. This is very normal. Our food contains a much higher moisture content (70%) compared to dry food (<10%), providing adequate and essential hydration at each meal.
You may also notice your dog produces smaller, firmer and less frequent bowel movements because the body is retaining more of the food and assimilating the nutrients better. This is another added bonus for puppies on raw food. House training can be a lot easier!
Because our raw blend is higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates than ultra processed pet foods, it helps to promote lean muscle mass and reduced fat accumulation making it easier for your dog to maintain a healthy weight.
Our raw food provides so much nutrient density at each bowl. Many pet parents report softer, shinier coats, improved mobility, more vitality, better digestion and improved behavior after several months on raw food.
